Education

Education

Holy Cross empowers Indigenous and rural children in remote target villages by improving access to quality education, strengthening foundational learning, and supporting school retention. Our approach involves working closely with families, teachers, and the wider community to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a brighter future

Program: Empowering Girls Through Social Emotional Learning:

Holy Cross strengthens the social and emotional well-being of Indigenous and rural girls through GLOW Clubs. These safe and supportive spaces help girls build confidence, develop essential life skills, enhance foundational learning, and stay connected to education. The program empowers girls to make informed decisions and thrive in school and in life.

Glow Clubs

Holy Cross strengthens Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) among Indigenous and rural girls through its Out-of-School Time Education Program, implemented through GLOW Clubs with support from Global Girls GLOW, USA. These clubs provide safe, nurturing, and girl-centered spaces where members can build emotional well-being, develop confidence, and gain essential life skills that support their growth and future opportunities.

Alongside SEL, GLOW Clubs support academic learning, foundational skill-building, gender equality awareness, and leadership development. The program helps girls stay connected to education, overcome personal and social barriers, and make informed decisions about their futures.

By actively engaging families, schools, and community stakeholders, the initiative fosters an ecosystem where girls are encouraged, supported, and empowered to thrive both emotionally and academically.

Program: Strengthening Children’s Voices Through Stories and Learning

Holy Cross runs LitClubs to help Indigenous and rural children build strong reading and writing skills, express themselves with confidence, and develop the “7 Strengths” of courage, kindness, and resilience. Through joyful storytelling, creative activities, and supportive group learning, LitClubs help children discover their voice and stay connected to education.

Lit Clubs

Holy Cross Social Service Society implements LitClubs, a joyful learning program that strengthens the reading, writing, creativity, and confidence of Indigenous and rural children. Supported by LitWorld, USA, LitClubs offer safe and nurturing spaces where children develop literacy skills, discover their voices, and cultivate a genuine love for learning.

Through engaging activities, such as storytelling, group discussions, read-alouds, creative expression, and collaborative projects, LitClubs help children develop confidence, empathy, resilience, and effective communication. The program is especially impactful for first-generation learners, who often face educational barriers in remote tribal villages.

LitClubs also foster strong community involvement by engaging parents, teachers, and caregivers, ensuring that children receive encouragement both at home and in school. By keeping children connected to learning, imagination, and positive relationships, LitClubs help them thrive in school and gain the skills they need to succeed in life.
