Overview
We delve into the profound impact of education in rural and tribal Andhra Pradesh. Education is more than knowledge acquisition; it catalyzes empowerment, social mobility, and sustainable development. In these communities, education offers pathways to opportunity, poverty alleviation, and leadership cultivation. Our commitment to education goes beyond traditional classrooms, focusing on holistic development to nurture critical thinking, creativity, and values vital for responsible citizenship.
Navigating Challenges
In rural and tribal Andhra Pradesh, education faces multifaceted challenges. Despite efforts to expand access, disparities persist, especially in remote areas. Cultural and linguistic diversity, alongside the digital gap, poses additional barriers. Gender biases and societal norms disadvantage girls, contributing to factors like early marriage and limited resources. These obstacles perpetuate cycles of inequality, impacting girls’ health, well-being, and future prospects.
Strategic Approach
At Holy Cross Social Service Society, we’re dedicated to breaking down these barriers. Through collaboration with government initiatives and targeted projects like out-of-school time education, we strive to ensure that every girl has access to quality education and the support she needs to thrive. Join us in empowering girls to become leaders and catalysts for community change.

Glow Club
GLOW Clubs are designed for girls aged 11 to 14 years. Each Club serves 15-20 girls with trained mentors, bringing them together once a week for two hours after school to enhance girls’ capacity to integrate skills, attitudes, and behaviors to deal effectively and ethically with daily tasks and challenges.
Mentorship Changes Lives
GLOW Clubs are led by trusted local mentors with strong ties to the community who are willing to dedicate their time to make a difference in girls’ lives. Mentors are positive female role models who come from the same communities as the girls they serve. Their intimate knowledge of community-wide issues allows them to adapt our curriculum to the local cultural context, preparing club members to overcome the specific societal barriers they face each day.
GLOW Club builds girls’ power
Our signature program, GLOW Club, is a mentorship program designed to ignite the power of girls. Through a 10-month curriculum of hands-on activities that build Social and Emotional Learning skills, girls in vulnerable communities develop their confidence and practice using their voice as they build lasting relationships with peers and learn to advocate for themselves and others.
Previous Projects
Seasonal Hostel
Seasonal Hostel for children of poor rural and tribal families that migrate seasonally to earn a subsistence living. Because children accompany their parents (father and mother), they drop out of village school. This phenomenon of distressed seasonal migration was highly neglected in our target area. The program, with kind support from SSA,The Govt. of AP, has covered over 50 families in multiple migration sectors by providing food and shelter for their children to continue their education.
Academic Support Programme
One of the challenges among children of Indigenous communities in our target area is that they drop out of the school system at a lower primary grade. This is mainly due to low learning outcomes at the primary level and weak foundation skills in subjects. Holy Cross Social Service Society has initiated the Academic support program with kind support from the Vista Hermosa Foundation (USA) to provide education and study materials to the above children.
Life Skills In Non-formal Contexts For Adolescent Girls
With kind support from MSME, Govt. of India, and Yak Foundation (The Netherlands), we organized vocational training on fashion designing and computers for underprivileged adolescent girls and low-literate youth. This project aims to impart education and skill development to children, youth, and women so they can live a life of dignity and respect.
