Safe Housing Initiative:
Holy Cross Social Service Society implemented the Safe Housing Initiative to improve the living conditions of vulnerable Indigenous families in Bhamini Mandal, Parvathipuram Manyam District, Andhra Pradesh. Many tribal widows and economically disadvantaged families were living in unsafe thatched huts that offered little protection from heavy rains and extreme weather. With the generous support of the SELAVIP Foundation, financial assistance was provided for essential construction materials. At the same time, beneficiaries also received housing assistance from the Government of India to complete the construction of their homes. Holy Cross Social Service Society coordinated the initiative by identifying eligible beneficiaries, providing technical guidance, monitoring construction, and supporting families throughout the house-building process.
The initiative has significantly improved the safety, health, and well-being of beneficiary families while restoring their dignity, confidence, and sense of security. More than simply providing permanent homes, it has created opportunities for healthier living, improved educational environments for children, and stronger, more resilient Indigenous communities. The project demonstrates how collaboration among local communities, development organizations, and government institutions can create lasting, meaningful change.
